The Art of Juggling Life and Work
We at The Modern PMO strongly believe in an appropriate work-life balance. We wanted to share an interesting article published by The Harvard Review from March of 2014 titled “Manage Your Work, Manage Your Life” by Boris Groysberg and Robin Abrahams. The authors provide tips and insight based on interviews and research which help provide some clear perspective on the pursuit of achieving and maintaining a proper balance in the eyes of business leaders.
We find the section on Defining Success for Yourself of great interest, as the authors walk us through their data collection and analysis, conducted over a 5-year period by students of the Harvard Business School. They conducted interviews with almost 4,0000 executes worldwide:
The survey responses consisted of short phrases and lists, but in the interviews, executives often defined personal success by telling a story or describing an ideal self or moment in time. Such narratives and self-concepts serve as motivational goalposts, helping people prioritize activities and make sense of conflicts and inconsistencies.
